Try to space out using the septic so it does not get overworked / overloaded. For example, if everyone in your house takes a long shower that day, consider doing laundry or running the dishwasher another day. Try spacing out the laundry instead of doing it all in one day. You don’t want to flood your new system! |
Do not put the pour the following down any drain:
** Best practice is to not use bleach. Also try to limit the use of harmful chemicals, opting for more natural cleaners/detergents. |

Keep all lids of the septic system accessible (do not cover them with mulch, dirt or any permanent structure, such as a patio). |
Do not use septic tank additives (applies to advanced treatment systems only). |

Keep heavy objects and equipment off of your system. |
Do not open or go inside your septic tank. |

If your septic system came with a service agreement, make sure you service your septic system as required. Keep records! |
Do not connect pipes to your septic system (do not connect water softener overflow or drainage pipes, roof gutters, sump pumps, air conditioner drains, etc.). |

Pump out the system regularly, at least every two years. If you have a garbage disposal or sewage pump, get your system pumped more frequently. |
Do not plant trees within 10 feet of the septic system. |
